Afterpulse Tips and Strategies

#1 With a Bullet

With gorgeous graphics, straightforward action and more guns than you can shake a monkey at, Afterpulse is quickly becoming a fan favorite for shooter fans on the App Store. If you find you’re getting killed more often than you’re killing, though, you may need a little help when scratching that itchy trigger finger of yours.

Our Afterpulse tips and strategies should provide all of the advice a beginner needs to start their shooter career on the right foot.

Target Once, Shoot Twice

Afterpulse crosshairs
Gamevil

While shooters typically require perfect accuracy, and MOBA’s require one-tap simplicity, Afterpulse’s targeting system falls right in the middle. You need to get your crosshairs aimed on a target to be able to deal damage – but once you have, those crosshairs will remain sticky even if the enemy moves. This means you’ll want to hammer down on the trigger and pump as much lead into that walking corpse as you can. And if they’re getting away? Just chase after them. So long as you keep your camera on the straight and narrow, your crosshairs should remain stuck to your opponents vitals like peanut butter to the roof of your mouth.

Hide and Heal

You can’t use cover in Afterpulse as complexly as you can in other shooters, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t value in knowing how and where to hide. As you explore an area, be sure to keep an eye out for good spots to conceal yourself. When you’re taking damage, get unseen as quickly as possible to heal up. Your health refills fairly quickly, and once it’s full, it’s time to jump back into the fray and get blasting.

Chumps Fire; Champs Reload

Gamevil

The bullets fly fast and furious in Afterpulse – but only until your gun runs empty. Worse yet, the only reason your gun might run empty is because you’re firing it at an enemy. Not a good time for your gun to jam, am I right? You’ll reload automatically if you run out of ammo, but it takes time. The better choice: reload whenever enemies aren’t around. You can do so by tapping the gun icon in the top right corner of the screen.

Rope-a-dope

You’ve now learned the value of reloading appropriately – now it’s time to learn how you can take advantage of your opponents reloading needs. In Afterpulse, you’ll often stumble across a pair of other competitors emptying their clips into each other. Now is an excellent time to dispatch both – not just because they’re weaker, but because they’ll very likely need to reload the moment you go in for the kill.

Cannibalize Your Armory

Afterpulse - fuse your weapons
Gamevil

Like a lot of free-to-play games, Afterpulse lets you fuse its main items to make them stronger. In this case, those items are guns. You can sacrifice your crummier weapons to improve the abilities of better items, increasing their damage, rate of fire, accuracy, stability, range, and ammo limits. If there’s a gun you like, keep dumping your weaker weapons into it until you’ve maxed out its abilities. Similarly, if you want to gamble, you can combine guns using the “Combine” option to get a new, more powerful gun of a different type.

Dress for Success

If Downton Abbey has taught us anything, it’s that fancy men wear hats. You want to be fancy, so do the same. In addition to guns, Afterpulse lets player choose their own headwear and armor. Pay close attention and hit the little “i” for more information – what you choose to wear will determine what type of defensive bonuses you receive. The clothes make the man, after all.

Gear Up, Soldier Boy

With the six tips above, every rookie mercenary should be able to stand toe-to-toe with the competition. Now reload that weapon and get a hustle on: it's time to climb that leaderboard, killer.
