The 20 Best 404 Error Pages Ever

Website developers have the option of creating their own 404 Not Found error pages for their sites, something many have done, but fewer have done well.

The error page, whether a custom page or not, is shown on most websites when the resource you were requesting could not be found. Websites without a 404 error page might simply redirect the request to the website's home page.

Here are 20 of the best 404 error pages we've seen:

Note: 404 is an HTTP status code and Not Found is an HTTP reason phrase, which together form the HTTP status line. See HTTP Status Codes for some other codes you might see in a web browser.

NPR's Lost Stories 404 Error Page.

NPR's 404: Page Not Found landing has to be one of the more creative, offering real stories about "lost people, places and things that still haven't turned up."

http://www.npr.org/404page

So, while you may not have landed on the story you were after, you can at least share your feelings of being lost by reading about Amelia Earhart, the lost city of Atlantis, and even Waldo.

Ira Glass really should do a This American Life show about lost things. Oh wait, he did.
